The logic behind a double-barreled shotgun is manifold. First, you get two shots, so if you miss one on a flushing bird, you have a second. You also have the ability to leverage different loads and chokes in each barrel.  The logic behind a double-barreled rifle is similar. Typically chambered in big-bore cartridges for hunting dangerous game, double-barreled rifles give the operator the...

Not every cartridge is effective for extreme long-range shooting. Some are better than others, and for unique reasons.  For instance, some lightweight cartridges like .22-250 and .223 are commonly used for long-range shooting because they are fast and shoot flat. That being said, they don’t really carry enough energy to the target to be viable for ELR shooting, especially if the...

Both .408 and .375 CheyTac, developed by Cheyenne Tactical for the M200 Intervention Sniper rifle, and loaded with Balanced Flight Projectiles that are ballistically engineered to remain supersonic all the way to a target, are excellent ELR rifle cartridges.  But they’re not the same, similar as they are; so, which is best for your ELR rifle? So you want to customize an ELR rifle. This is not like any precision rifle. Spec’ing out an ELR rifle entails every consideration that would go into a precision rifle and then some. Consider this: you can spec out a precision rifle in .22LR. That’s not going to fly with an ELR rifle.  That being said, in the event you find yourself using a custom rifle builder to...

The Accuracy International AXSR is one of the best extreme long-range rifle platforms that’s been designed to date, ranging alongside models like the CheyTac M200 Intervention sniper rifle and pushing the envelope of what performance looks like in an ELR rifle. But that being said, what are some of the best reasons that it actually is a great extreme long-range rifle? Here are 7 of...

Let’s not mince words. There is a very real chance that if you get into serious ELR shooting and want to buy your own rifle, you’re going to shell out ten thousand dollars, if not more.  This is no small expense, even for someone that has money to throw around. It’s also the sort of purchase you should consider, not just because of what you’ll need to pay, but...
